Parlimentary Procedures in Brief
- Bring up an issue during new business by saying “I move to . . .” Another brother then seconds the motion.
- President opens the floor for discussion.
- Move and second to vote on the issue or the President simply calls it to a vote.
- If someone is dissatisfied with the motion, s/he may propose an amendment during discussion. This must be seconded.
- The chapter discusses the amendment and then votes on it.
- Then everyone votes on the amended motion.
- If the issue cannot be resolved, someone can move to table the motion and someone else must second it. The motion may be brought up again at a later meeting during old business if someone motions to untable it.
